Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, known simply as Shakira, is the highest-selling Colombian artist of all time. She is also a two-time Grammy award winner and is the first artist to have two songs in the top ten of the most successful singles since 1999. She will be awarded with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, making her the first Colombian to receive this honor.

Wisconsin-Green Bay Center Lavesa Glover, a former Miami Herald 3A Athlete of the Year while at Miami Dade Christian High School, dribbles the ball upcourt during a recent game at Florida International University. Glover, a senior, finished last year ranked 15th in the NCAA in field goal percentage at .564 and led her team in blocked shots and rebounds.

A child soaks in some peewee football at Gwen Cherry Park in Liberty City, home of the NFL Youth Educational Town (YET) Center. The YET Center is the result of the NFL's Commitment to enhance the lives of at-risk youth in cities that host the Super Bowl. The park was named after Gwen Cherry, who was the first Black woman to practice law in Miami-Dade County and the first Black woman to serve as a legislator for the State of Florida.
Jose Luis Rodríguez, nicknamed El Puma, a Venezuelan singer and actor, recently had a portion of NW 107th Avenue in Doral designated in his name. "El Puma" has recorded more than 50 international hits and has appeared in more than 30 Spanish soap operas. He is also involved in several charities, including League Against Cancer and Amigos Together for Kids.
